Every family seems to have one person who proudly says, “We’re not getting a cat.” Most of the time, it’s Dad. He insists the cat isn’t allowed on the furniture, says he doesn’t want the responsibility, and claims he’ll have nothing to do with it. Everyone hears the speech… but somehow, the cat ends up coming home anyway. Fast forward a few months, and Dad is the cat’s favorite human. He’s the one secretly buying the expensive treats, building little cardboard forts, and making sure the food bowl is never empty. If anyone asks, he’ll still say, “It’s not my cat,” even as the cat is curled up asleep on his lap. The funniest part is watching the rules slowly disappear. “The cat isn’t sleeping in my bed,” turns into, “Don’t wake him up—he’s comfortable.” “No people food,” becomes tiny bites of chicken magically appearing under the table.
