How toxic is your work environment? Us gardeners have to work in very dangerous environments. 🤪

It’s well worth looking up the story of the poisonous rhododendron honey that Mithridates cleverly used to lure Pompey and the invading Roman army. It reduced the Roman army to a feeble, mad and incapable stupor… and then Mithridates moved his army in to slaughter them.

With regards to poisonous plants, I don’t want to put you off gardening but it is worth being aware of how deadly some of the plants are in our gardens. From a positive point of view they do make fantastic murder mysteries stories.

I was very privileged to be Head Gardener at Agatha Christie‘s Greenway in Brixham, Devon. I love the way that plants can be used to tell such fascinating stories.
