Have you ever wondered why your character still looks stylized, even when the proportions are right? Sometimes the issue is not the anatomy, but how the skin is sculpted.

Skin is not sharp. It is very smooth. The way it rests on bones, fat, and muscles is similar to a piece of leather. Just like in cloth sculpting, the thicker the fabric, the softer and smoother the edges become.

Human skin is also not the same thickness everywhere on the body. Areas with more fat have thicker skin. Compare the skin on your hand to the skin on your belly and you will immediately see the difference.

Keeping your skin smooth will also greatly improve your SSS in rendering. Next time you sculpt a face, a hand, or any body part, focus on making the skin as smooth as possible. It can make a huge difference.
