There are some things in life we have to grieve that we never actually had. The marriage we thought we’d have by now. The children we hoped for. The career opportunity that didn’t come. The version of life we imagined we’d be living at this age. And sometimes that grief is hard to explain because nothing was necessarily taken from us. It’s simply that something we deeply wanted never happened. In this conversation with @anniefdowns , we talked about the importance of making room to grieve the life you thought you’d have. Because you can be grateful for the life God has given you and still feel sadness over the things you hoped would be part of it. Both can be true. And sometimes moving forward doesn’t begin with telling yourself to get over it. It begins with giving yourself permission to acknowledge what you’ve lost, even if that loss was a dream that never became reality. You don’t have to pretend it didn’t matter in order to trust God with what comes next. We talked more about navigating grief, unmet expectations, and trusting God when life looks different than we imagined on the podcast. What an incredible 81st Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner! As always, an extraordinary success benefitting women and children. His Eminence Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop Emeritus of New York, was the Keynote Speaker and New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch was honored as Happy Warrior- both speeches brought me to tears! THANK YOU Morgan Ortagus for your inspiring generosity💖 Thank you NYPD - our finest- congrats @kilmeade @katedepetro & @nicolesaphier_md what a privilege to spend the evening with you and our girls!💖🥂 Since its first dinner in 1946, The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner has raised millions of dollars for New York’s most vulnerable women and children. The Dinner has featured renowned cultural, business, and political figures, including most major party presidential nominees during election years since 1960. A special evening I will never forget! ✨
