A Curtain is Meant to Sway

What is the nature of the aesthetic experience when confronted with violent reality? Exploration of the ‘rise’ in nationalism in Japan and how the collective unconcious can lead to its toxicity.
When people think of Japan today, one of the first features that come to mind are its clean aesthetics and purity culture. However, behind this facade lies a much darker colonial past most notably in the events of ww2. Despite the country having seen huge technological advancements since then, the nations conservative values have remained largely unchanged, as seen through the recent election in July. This work is a commentary on those in Japan who perpetuates these ideologies, as well as those in our general global population who deny or neglect the significance of the past and its impact on our lives today.
