Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms won the Georgia governor’s race, the Associated Press said. Bottoms focused on rising costs in her campaign. She promised that she would stand up to President Trump and work to expand Medicaid in Georgia. Bottoms is the first Democrat to be elected governor in Georgia in almost three decades.

Democrat Abdul El-Sayed will become the nation’s first Muslim senator, a historic victory that also gives his party’s ascendant progressive wing evidence that far-left candidates can win competitive elections even in presidential battlegrounds like Michigan.

Three people will become the first Black governors of their states: Republican Byron Donalds in Florida, Democrat David Crowley in Wisconsin and Democrat Aaron Ford in Nevada.

Along with Bottoms, they join a group of only six Black elected governors in U.S. history.
