Happy Black History Month! In honor of Black History Month I want to circle back and share my experiences and memories for Art In Bloom at the
@stlartmuseum last year. I had the honor and great pleasure to interpret art with flowers.
After receiving results from my ancestry I manifested a piece I could connect to, specifically a piece that was Nigerian. I was delusional enough to believe that was possible out of thousands and thousands of works of art and possibilities, especially considering we don’t pick what we want to interpret. The art chooses us. We pick a number— a tiny piece of paper with a number on it. Once our number is called, we choose a piece of paper rolled with a rubber-band to conceal the art chosen. I added emphasis on we don’t get to pick it because yeah, it’s all by chance.
Of courseeee I drank too much tea and had to run to the restroom while wearing a complicated boiler suit followed by a quick video to capture the moment. And sure enough, everyone chose their art (drawn randomly from a basket). I drew what was available, there were two options. And there it was, an African mask from the Igbo tribe.
This year I have the honor to be a part of this incredible experience all over again. Can’t wait to see y’all! 🤎
