Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Dussehra celebrations in East Delhi on Tuesday, October 20, participating in the traditional Ravan Dahan ceremony and delivering a message of national unity. The event, organised by the IP Extension Ramlila Committee in Patparganj, brought together devotees celebrating Vijayadashami, which symbolises the victory of good over evil.

Visuals from the celebrations showed PM Modi attending the Ramlila festivities as the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigy took place. Footage of the ceremony circulated on social media, drawing attention to the Prime Minister’s participation in the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Modi began his speech with chants praising Lord Ram and described Dussehra as much more than a religious festival. He said Ramlila represents the defeat of tyranny, terror and falsehood, while preserving the ideals of Lord Ram across generations.

The Prime Minister also invoked the concept of Ram Rajya, emphasising public welfare, social justice and self-reliance. Calling for collective responsibility towards the country’s progress, he urged citizens to work together in India’s interests and cautioned against actions that damage the nation’s image.

Modi further highlighted how Lord Ram’s teachings continue to shape Indian society, describing the celebrations as an expression of the country’s cultural strength. He noted that villages and cities across India were immersed in Ramlila performances, keeping centuries-old traditions alive.

Dussehra, celebrated at the conclusion of Navratri, commemorates Lord Ram’s victory over Ravana. Across India, towering effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran are traditionally set ablaze to symbolise the triumph of righteousness over evil.
