Filmesthete

Mads Mikkelsen says he initially “hated” the idea of ending Another Round (2020) with a dance sequence:

“I thought it was wrong for the film. This is a realistic film. It’s too pretentious.”

Mikkelsen performed every move in the final dance of Another Round. A trained dancer, he hadn’t used those skills in 30 years.

The scene was shot after Thomas Vinterberg lost his daughter. He later called the film a “beautiful catastrophe.”

The film spends most of its runtime grounded in quiet despair, emotions suppressed. When the final dance arrives, it’s a release that’s been building the whole time.
