@npr, this was incredible journalism. Youth, in many ways, is being used as the conduit for the scam. My fear as a beauty founder? The fear of getting older makes just about everyone vulnerable… and AI? Harder to track and prosecute crimes.

In these stores, you have actual people you can trace. What happens when the salespeople, and even the owners, become avatars? AI supercharges the scam. Reports already show subscriptions overcharging people and “contracts” for products that are hard to get out of… the internet is increasingly a minefield.

@404mediaco (and @this.is.mallory!) reporting on TikTok Shop AI Slop still haunts me, mostly because when I search terms around health and anti-aging, I see more and more AI trained on videos of the actually inspiring women. And instead of a positive message, there’s a sale to be made.
