This Black History Month, we honor the sacred courage of Shiphrah and Puah, the two midwives in Book of Exodus 1:15–21 who defied Pharaoh’s command to kill Hebrew baby boys and chose LIFE instead. ✊🏾🤎

In the face of power, policy, and pressure, they practiced courageous civil disobedience rooted in their fear of God and their reverence for the sacredness of birth. Because of their bravery, a generation was protected. Because of their obedience to God over empire, legacy continued. And Scripture tells us that God blessed them with households of their own. 🏡

This is the lineage of midwifery.
This is the holy resistance woven into our herstory.

To every midwife grounded and rooted in this forever legacy, those who protect Black mothers, advocate for safe births, and stand firm in faith and justice — we see you. We honor you. We thank you. 🤱🏾👑

Life-protecting. God-fearing. Legacy-building.

Shoutout to Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Their powerful performance of “Thank The Midwives” beautifully uplifts the sacred work of birthworkers honoring the hands, hearts, and histories of those who have carried our communities through generations. 🤱🏾✨
