🧚⛲ Koji Kondo – Great Fairy's Fountain Theme (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past) Eímear Noone – conductor 🎼 • If you have played Zelda, you may know this music from somewhere else: in several games in the series, a version of it, without the sweeping rising notes of the opening, plays on the file select screen. After its debut, the theme returned in titles such as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The recording in this video grew out of the series' 25th anniversary. In June 2011, at a press event at E3, Nintendo announced an orchestral CD to accompany the game Skyward Sword. The composer Koji Kondo and the team hand-picked the pieces on the program, and the disc came with the first print runs of the game. • Listen again for the high note that comes in near the end, when the camera is already behind the harp: that note stays still while, underneath, the other notes climb from low to high in staircases that start over, like someone who climbs a few steps, goes back to the foot of the stairs and climbs again, until the sound hangs in the air. • The conducting of the CD is credited to Eímear Noone, an Irishwoman from Kilconnell, County Galway, who built a career conducting video game music and, years later, became the first woman to conduct at the Oscars. The recording was made at Bastyr Chapel, a chapel in Kenmore, Washington state, and Nintendo filmed the session in 3D for Nintendo Video, the video service of the 3DS console. In the video, what you see is a recording session, with no audience: the singers sing wearing big headphones, and the violinists play with a headphone on one ear only. • 👉 Follow for the best of classical music daily on your feed. • #zelda #kojikondo #greatfairysfountain #classicalmusic
