Neighbors! Sharrieffa Barksdale & The Domestic Violence She Survived __ The world saw an Olympian, but behind the uniform was a powerful story of strength, sacrifice, and survival. HURDLES, an upcoming biopic film currently in development with Gentel Sharrie Productions, tells the inspiring story of 1984 U.S. Olympian Sharrieffa Barksdale, the first American woman to break the 55-second barrier in the 400-meter hurdles. __ Beyond her historic athletic achievements, Barksdale overcame domestic violence, heartbreak, personal loss, and adversity, finding strength through faith and perseverance. Now, 44 years after competing in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, she is preparing to return for LA28 as part of the USA Track & Field supporting staff. Her extraordinary journey will be brought to life by her daughter, award-winning actress and producer Gentel Sharrie, who will portray her mother in the upcoming film. HURDLES is more than a sports biopic; it’s a story of resilience, survival, and breaking barriers both on and off the track. __ The project features narration by JAVA, photography and videography by Dante J. Mississippi officials have determined that a police officer was justified in a shooting that k*lled a 1-year-old Black boy outside a Walmart earlier this year. On Monday (Oct. 19), Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office announced that no criminal charges would be filed against the officer involved in the June 14 d3ath of Kohen Wiley (pictured), who was f*tally shot while sitting inside a vehicle with his mother in Senatobia, Mississippi. The decision follows an investigation conducted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. The sh00ting occurred after officers responded to a reported sh*plifting incident involving diapers and baby clothing at Walmart. According to authorities, officers attempted to stop a vehicle carrying Kohen, his mother, Vellesiya Wiley, and another woman. Investigators initially claimed the driver accelerated toward officers, nearly striking one of them, prompting an officer to open fire. Kohen was k•lled, and the woman driving the vehicle was cr•tically injured. Neither woman has been charged with shoplifting. However, Kohen’s mother has disputed the police account, maintaining that the vehicle was not driving toward officers. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the family, previously revealed that an independent autopsy indicated the bullet that k•lled Kohen entered from the side of his chest. Crump argued that the findings challenged the official explanation that the officer fired because the vehicle was approaching law enforcement. The child’s d*ath sparked protests and demands for accountability, with his family repeatedly calling for authorities to release body-camera footage of the sh00ting. During an emotional press conference, Kohen’s mother said: “I watched my baby take his first breath, and I watched my baby take his last breath.” Despite the family’s concerns, the Attorney General’s Office concluded that the officer’s use of deadly force was justified. We continue to send our condolences to the family 🙏🏽
