Comment "Cake" and Iโ€™ll send you my 20 discovery call questions for free. In 1978, Harvard psychologist Ellen Langer sent people to cut in line at a busy copy machine. When they asked, โ€œMay I use the machine?โ€, 60% of people let them. When they added โ€œbecause Iโ€™m in a rush,โ€ 94% said yes. The surprising part came with the third version: โ€œMay I use the machine, because I have to make copies?โ€ That reason makes no sense, since everyone in line has to make copies, and it still got 93%. The word โ€œbecauseโ€ tells the brain a reason is coming, and for small requests people say yes before they think it through. For bigger requests, Langer found the reason had to be real. Thatโ€™s why the best reasons in sales are about the buyer, not the seller. More isnโ€™t better, though. Psychologists call it the dilution effect: when you add weaker reasons to a strong one, people trust the whole argument less. One good reason sounds like the truth, and three sound like a pitch. @aipbi #salesmanship #psychology #persuasion #salestips #business
