Guess who passed his racing driver test today? That's right everyone, I'm back on track this year!
A lot of firsts today during my ARDS test. First time driving Donington Park (great track, loved it), also first time driving an electric car, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.
Very impressed by the car. Has a paddle shift gearbox and along with the simulated noise, can't tell it's electric (aside from the lack of engine vibration I suppose). If you're in the wrong gear, it won't pull so you have treat it right just like a petrol 'performance' vehicle. Things I didn't like? Well, it did feel big out on track and tall too. Didn't mess around with the seat enough but it felt like sitting in a van. I'm sure there was a lower seat position but wasn't my car. After all, it did win Top Gear's Car of the Year award in 2023 so what do I know?
Anyway, what will I be racing this year? Sorry, that's a secret...
