Every day. Every single day for nearly 365 days I watched THIS video, and so did a lot of you.
After a LOT of thinking, I can confidently attribute my moral standards to this video and to my fifth grade teacher. I thought about this video every day since the last time I watched it as an 11 year old and I had no idea why. I didn't know why I wanted to care so much about everyone and everything, I didn't know why I cried at the simple thought of a child losing a balloon they had for two minutes. I didn't know why I felt so shameful and regretful towards matters I wasn't even educated on.
Now I know it's because I was taught empathy. REAL empathy, not that feel bad for you playground bullshit but really sitting there and LISTENING and EXPERIENCING the pain and labor someone has gone through. To me, THAT is empathy.
So when I look at the world around me, I can't help but feel hurt and disgusted and so so very uncomfortable, but when I look inward for support, when I look to my friends and family, all I see is a bunch of ignorant people who are living their lives like nothing is happening. Just watching the sports game and cheering for the funny commercials.
What the fuck is wrong with you people?
YOU have a voice. God did not give it to you so you can use it to ignore the importance of death and brutality, God gave you that voice to scream and complain and yell, God gave you that voice to cry and to pray and to say 'I love you' but you can't do that if you're dead.
This isn't just one of those things that happens and then goes away after a little bit of anger. This isn't about left or right. It does not matter if you are legal, it does not matter if you work hard, it does not matter if you go to school.
They. Want. You. Dead.
It's simple, speak up and you're a target, stay silent and you're a supporter.
Are you really gonna be the one who shamelessly carries their social security and birth certificate for the fourth Reich?

Each and every one of you has a voice, each and every one of you has a platform, so why the hell aren't we using them?? Why are we just having a good grand old time right now?
