What a difference a year has made…

This time last year, these borders were little more than bare soil, with some planting plans and a vision

Twelve months on, the difference feels remarkable

The roses have settled in and rewarded us with beautiful blooms. Things are thriving, and the garden is softening the path to the house, and for the first time it feels as though Trinity Lodge is being framed by flowers rather than simply surrounded by lawn

Not everything has been a success. Some plants have flourished, others have struggled. There have been plenty of lessons along the way about what likes this spot and what would rather be elsewhere

But that’s what I love most about gardening. There isn’t an instant reveal, you plant something, hope for the best, and then wait to see what happens and the pride when it works out is wonderful

I say plant the flowers, the sooner you plant them, the sooner they grow
