🥹🥹🥹 This speech! Do you know what’s amazing? Liam practiced it with his mother, who loved and approved of every word. (She told me this when we had dinner three nights ago for Liam’s birthday.) With this speech, this eleven-year-old managed to explain something about love and family that some adults still struggle to grasp. Love isn’t a competition. There’s no limited amount of it to go around. My loving Liam and Shoshana doesn’t take anything away from Canaan and Delila. And Liam and Shoshana being securely attached to me doesn’t take anything away from their biological parents. I was meant to be one of his moms in this life. Our souls chose that before the beginning of time. It just… is. As he said: We manifested each other. So, to the people who insist there’s “only one mama”… 😳🙄 Well, in Liam and Shoshana’s lives, there are two. And the people who make up our family like it this way. So to the anti-stepmom brigade that continues to have a problem with this: 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼 This isn’t a zero-sum world. And policing how much love a child is allowed to receive isn’t making it a better one. Now please enjoy this incredible video by @ashleyandjayfilms of one of the best nights of my entire life, surrounded by my beautiful children, lifelong friends, and incredibly hot husband at our slightly over the top wedding. 😉♥️ Venue: @grimmsbluff Planning, Florals & Design: @tylerspeier Photographer: @laurenfair Videographer: @ashleyandjayfilms Content Creator: @heartcraftedsocial Music, Choir & Strings: @elanartists Catering & Bar: @duocatering Tent & Rentals: @townandcountry_eventrentals Specialty Rentals: @foundrentalco o Linens & Specialty Rentals: @theonicollection Dance Floor: @rcddancefloors Plant Rentals: @greenroombyemmarose Transportation: @JumpOnTheSchool Lighting & Draping: @bellavistadesigns Pavlova: @lindsays_little_bakery Transportation: Classy Chassis Rentals Photobooth: @mirmirphoto Paper Goods: @kdesigns_sb Hair: @jeffvhair @hairbytabitha @timduenashair Makeup: @christinaleeadams Boys suits: @studiowardrobes ^^ not sponsored; just all… amazing
“One night I was complaining about a silly stiff neck from chores, and 48 hours later, I was in an ICU bed, suffocating as my body quietly paralyzed itself from the neck down. At 17, I did everything running the house, studying for college, and dancing till my feet hurt. One day, when an ache settled into my neck, I brushed it off. I’d survived 4 years of migraines, so a little pain was nothing. I took a pill, assumed I’d pulled a muscle, and went to sleep. At 3:00 AM on December 23rd, I woke up screaming. The pain felt like someone was snapping my spine in half. Within hours, the nightmare swallowed me whole. I started puking violently four times in a row. That was the moment terror set in for my parents; they knew this wasn’t just a migraine anymore. The pain crept into every nerve, turning my muscles to stone. First, I lost the ability to move my head. Then, my voice slipped away. I remember trying desperately to look at my mother, but my body had frozen. Trapped inside my own skin, I couldn’t even whisper for help. The shift was brutal. How do you go from complaining about a simple neck strain while washing dishes to lying under hospital lights with central lines feeding into your body, listening to doctors whisper about central nervous system damage? The ICU bills were crippling, but my family never made me feel like a burden for even a second. They stood outside the glass, praying for a sign of life from the girl who used to fill our home with energy. Yet, sitting in that cold room, staring into the dark, something shifted inside me. My body had locked up, but my spirit refused to follow suit. I looked at my mother holding my motionless hand, believing in me when I couldn’t even breathe on my own, and I made a silent vow: I was coming back. Slowly, light found its way back. It started with a twitch of a finger, a whisper, a breath on my own. Now, my days are filled with relentless physio. I haven’t fully recovered yet, but my spirit is unbreakable. A minor ache stole my health in hours, but it couldn’t steal my future. Looking back at how close I came to losing everything, I know one thing for certain: if I can survive this, I can do anything.”
