If the drum tone matters to you, sometimes the best move isn’t touching the console.
It’s walking over to the kit.
A ringing tom.
A loose head.
A kick that hasn’t been tuned in months.
You can spend the whole soundcheck trying to EQ around that.
Or you grab a drum key and fix the instrument.
Sound engineers don’t just mix what’s there.
Sometimes you go make it better.
Sound engineers, have you ever tuned the kit yourself during soundcheck?

Nah you can't tell em that they'll convince the church to get an electronic drum set

I actually do this often, I normally work with the drummer to get the results we want to achieve
