What exhibition has had the most influence on you? For Larry Bell, it’s his show of outdoor works at Madison Square Park in New York, “Larry Bell: Improvisations in the Park” which is on view through March 15, 2026.

In this episode of Under the Influence, Larry Bell reflects on the work of H.G. Wells, relays advice learned from lifelong friend Robert Irwin, who provided all his students with “an avenue for trusting themselves,” and discusses the importance of spontaneity, improvisation, intuition, and trust—“the four most important tools” in life.
