Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is facing mounting pressure over the Eastleigh building collapse, with leaders accusing him of giving conflicting accounts of the approvals issued for the project.

Sakaja maintained that the building had no construction approval, but Nairobi South MCA Waithera Chege challenged his claims, presenting documents she said showed that the county had approved the project. She accused the governor of lying and questioned how the building was allowed to rise to 18 floors.

Meanwhile, Mzee Ali, a Somali man, has been named in claims circulating about the ownership of the collapsed building, although the allegation has not been independently verified.
