Katie Zacharia’s brief tenure as White House press secretary ended Friday after only five days on the job, making her the shortest-serving person in the role in modern U.S. history.

President Donald Trump announced Zacharia’s appointment on October 9 as the successor to Karoline Leavitt. She officially began the role on October 12. Her first and only briefing in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room took place the following day and lasted roughly 14–15 minutes. She took a limited number of questions, primarily from conservative-leaning outlets, and the performance drew widespread criticism for its brevity, reliance on prepared remarks, and overall delivery.

Compounding the scrutiny was the revelation about her legal credentials. Zacharia, a 2011 graduate of Pepperdine University’s Caruso School of Law, had repeatedly described herself as a lawyer and was introduced by Trump as an “attorney.” She later confirmed she sat for the California bar exam in 2011 but did not pass and never became licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction.

The issue intensified after she gave an unclear response when asked where she had passed the bar, and a complaint was filed with the California State Bar Association regarding whether she had improperly held herself out as entitled to practice law.

On Friday, Trump told reporters outside the White House that he had spoken with Zacharia and suggested she “reconsider” the position. He said he told her she did not need the job and expressed concern that she might not be happy in it, while also criticizing the media’s coverage of her. Shortly afterward, White House officials confirmed she was transitioning out of the role. Reports described the move variously as her being let go or fired. It remains unclear whether she will take another position in the administration or Trump’s orbit.

Zacharia’s five-day tenure is shorter than Anthony Scaramucci’s 11-day stint as White House communications director in 2017. The rapid exit returns the White House communications operation to a period of uncertainty ahead of the midterm elections.

NHS patient Müge joined the recent protest outside the Whittington Hospital in north London and asked @jeremycorbyn why Palantir has no place in our NHS.

Like millions of patients in England, she was never asked whether US spy tech company Palantir could handle her health data. The same company’s technology is used by the Israeli military and powers ICE deportation raids in the US. It now holds a £330m contract to run the NHS Federated Data Platform.

The government is expected to decide in the coming weeks whether to use the break clause and end Palantir’s contract. Use the email tool to get your local hospitals, MPs and councils to back the break clause now! Comment ‘tool’ and we’ll send the link to your DMs.

Here we come for JOE BOB’S HALLOWEEN HOUSE PARTY, the LAST Halloween show of The Last Drive-In on Shudder. We’re gonna party like the plague victims in Nosferatu! Double feature starting at 9 Eastern/6 Pacific next Friday the 23rd. The best part: Folks on Death Row can do ANYTHING WE WANT!
