Red pandas are gentle, tree-loving animals known for their fluffy tails and shy personalities. In the wild, they live in cool mountain forests and spend much of their time climbing and resting in trees, feeding mainly on bamboo.

Sadly, they often do better in captivity than in the wild because their natural habitat is being lost to deforestation, farming, and human expansion. In the wild, they also face threats from poaching and difficulty finding enough food. In well-managed zoos and conservation centers, red pandas are protected from these dangers, receive regular meals, and get veterinary care. These safe conditions help them live longer and reproduce more successfully, which is important for conserving the species.
