Onto the next phase 🤞🏼
It’s been a while since I shared anything. I was hoping I’d be able to give a positive update but sadly cancer has other plans.
After a gruelling 4 months on IV chemo, my scans from December showed that I’d responded well & the tumours had shrunk / were hardly noticeable. Chemo had done its job! I needed to successfully complete the IV course, in order to be eligible to move onto a different drug which focused on my BRCA2 mutation. A targeted therapy that would hopefully keep things at bay for a while and allow me to have longer on other forms of chemotherapy.
Unfortunately, my most recent scans showed that there is, once again, significant disease progression 💔 the treatment I’ve been on since December, doesn’t look like it’s worked at all. I’m gutted. It feels like everything I’ve been through in the last 6 - 8 months, has been pointless. I took a huge risk, put my body through absolute hell, in the hope that this was the best option for me to live a little longer. It didn’t pay off. I’m trying to reframe my thought process though - if I didn’t try, I’d never know and things could have been worse (unlikely but it’s a coping mechanism).
So I’m moving onto a new treatment, my 4th in under two years. Not looking good 😃 but trying to stay hopeful that this one will actually do the job & I’ll possibly get another year. But it’s not a guarantee and that is so horrifying to come to terms with.
Filled with fear.
Side effects sound brutal.
Life will be rough.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me and checked in regularly since you found out, you know who you are 🫶🏼
The fight continues, it’s exhausting and debilitating. It feels relentless. But truthfully, every time I walk into an oncologist’s office and I’m not told “there’s nothing more we can do”, I feel extremely lucky. Because one day, those words will be spoken.
Going to give it what I’ve got left & hopefully this time, the stars will align and I’ll get a little bit of myself back. Let’s see.
Never expected my life to be cut so unfairly short 💔
Be grateful for what you have, do the things that make you feel alive & tell your people that you love them. 🤍
