#DrDre’s “2001” is the most-streamed Hip Hop album of the 1990s 🏆🍃

Released in November 1999, Dr. Dre’s legendary sophomore album “2001” has now surpassed 6.5 BILLION streams, outperforming classic releases from 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. and even Eminem.

But this incredible milestone raises one BIG question: When will “2001” receive an updated RIAA certification? 🤔

Despite its continued commercial success, “2001” remains certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA, representing 6 million units in the United States. Dre received this certification on November 21, 2000, and the album hasn’t been updated since.

To put those streaming numbers into perspective, 6.5 billion streams equates to approximately 4.33 MILLION album-equivalent units, based on the RIAA’s conversion rate of 1,500 streams per album unit. However, only eligible US streams would count towards an American certification.

And that’s before considering the nearly 26 YEARS of additional physical album sales and digital downloads since its last certification.

With timeless Hip Hop classics including “Still D.R.E.”, “Forgot About Dre”, “The Next Episode” and “Xxplosive”, the Aftermath Entertainment masterpiece continues to dominate streaming platforms more than a quarter of a century after its release.

Not only is “2001” one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time, but its true commercial performance could place it among the best-selling Rap albums in history.

Is it time for Dr. Dre’s “2001” to be certified DIAMOND? 💎
