“The cowards never started, the weak died along the way. Guess that leaves us” I ran a half marathon back in August around 1 hour and 11 minutes. Most “experts” and coaches in running would’ve told me the following: “Double your half marathon time and add 6 minutes. That’s what you’ll run for a full.” There’s something important to know, most people want to put you into a box because it makes their life easier. It’s a weak approach and if you aren’t careful, you will be told what you’re capable of before even stepping foot on the course. I hate that and reject what most limits are because it’s lazy thinking Long story short, if I would’ve believed the traditional way I would’ve ran a 2:28 marathon at best. Instead I ran 5 minutes faster To quote the great Katie Heron, “The limit does not exist.” Expect more from yourself and you’ll get more in return 🎥: @247represent
This evening, the best kind of elephant rescue unfolded — one that ended with a little life saved and a wild family kept together. A young calf was found flailing inside a septic tank, trapped and unable to free herself. The Keepers from our nearby Voi Reintegration Unit raced to the scene, alongside the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Vet Unit. Together, the team made a plan: they used a bowser to fill the tank with water, which floated the calf to a manageable level from which she could be pulled to solid ground. It was the moment her mother had been waiting for. The herd had remained in the area, panicky but clearly not yet giving up hope. The reunion at the end speaks for itself — sound up to hear the trumpets of joy! — It’s not always possible to return a trapped calf to its family — often, the herd has given up and left the area by the time it is discovered — which makes this reunion all the more wonderful. But whether it’s a rescue or a reunion, our team will be there to help. We will also ensure this particular tank is covered to prevent a repeat incident. sheldrickwildlifetrust.org —— © Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Posters urging people to buy meat, biryani and puja items only from Hindu-owned shops have appeared across Siliguri in North Bengal just ahead of Durga Puja, setting off a political row over religion, food and everyday trade. The posters were put up by the Hindu Jagaran Manch, which PTI describes as an affiliate of the RSS. One poster reads, “Buy meat from Hindu-owned shops.” Another says there is no ban on eating biryani, but that it should be bought from a Hindu-owned shop. A third asks residents to buy puja articles from Hindu shops. They have been pasted at several spots in the city, including on walls near the Tarun Tirtha Club’s puja grounds in Bharat Nagar. Reports note that this venue is close to the home of state Tourism Minister and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh. Abhishek Das, a Manch member leading the campaign, spoke in favour of these posters. He said the group had put them up on its own to spread a message of Hindu unity, and that they were meant to support local businesses run by Hindus. “This is not a diktat but an appeal,” Das said, adding that backing such shops would also help the local economy.
