So this coming Tuesday morning I am having a Port put into my chest. The IV team felt that my veins were getting too much scarring going on that I were to have an emergency like a heart attack or a stroke I may die because they would not be able to find a vein for life saving procedures. The nurse who spoke with me was like, “ if you were my dad , grandfather, brother or uncle I would recommend this to happen immediately “. It turns out that before I have had two different PICK lines and two different Central Lines that had closed, but never a Port. I told them that these always close up on me and she said they have ways of cleaning the Port lines now. I guess they kind of put you out as they do a small surgical slit in your chest and install the Port line. After it heals it is under your skin and then it is easy peasy with no more 5 times poking me and moving the needle around while tears are running down my face. The rubber self seals and it is just a bandaid on the pin prick each time. No more huge bruises and painful to the touch areas. Easy blood draws and chemotherapy infusions for my future. Plus I might survive an emergency as well. I, of course, am apprehensive about everything but I will brave it out as best as a coward can.
