Most dancers are trained to think about steps, patterns, and counts. But when you watch Edwar, he doesn’t just dance on top of the music. He dances inside the music. He reacts to percussion, pauses, accents, bass lines, and phrasing, so the dancing looks like a conversation with the band rather than a sequence of moves. He can dance for a long time without doing anything complicated, but it never looks boring because he’s constantly changing rhythm, timing, energy and intention.
This is also why learning from him can feel difficult at the beginning. You’re not just learning steps, you’re learning how to move your body properly, how to listen to music, how to change rhythm, how to use space, how to pause, and how to control your movement. These are things that take longer to understand, but they completely change the way you dance.
And that’s really the difference.
Steps make you a dancer.
But rhythm, movement, and control are what make someone really dance.
