First Assist

Our NHL Indigenous Alumni was so happy to be able to travel to three fantastic communities. We started in Selkirk First Nation.(Pelly Crossing) with a fun game and feast. We are greeted so warmly every time we go. The Chief and Council were there as well as many spectators. Cody Simms and Alex Barrett made sure we felt welcome. The Chief gave every alumni a present to go home with. Mitts, hats and pictures made by local artists. Outstanding. The following day we were in Champagne and Aishihik FN for a wonderful day of school visits and hockey. The video of the mountains when you leave the arena is breathtaking. Chief Barb Joe was great making sure everything was organized and ready to go. We even had our own “Visual Timekeepers”. Last stop was Inuvik ,NWT. Sniffs(Brent Connell) did all the legwork to have us up. It ran seamlessly thanks to him. When we do these trips, Hockey is almost secondary. And even though Scott doesn’t talk much, we visit the schools and interact with the youth and community through the community feast and cultural celebrations. We highlight indigenous achievement, both athletic and scholastic,. It’s important that the kids know that any dream is possible. Don’t let where you’re from dictate what you can become. All these guys epitomize this from leaving home early, to obstacles they faced. Letting the kids know anything is possible with hard work and perserverance. Thanks from FA to them is never enough. We truly appreciate every one if them and their journeys. @caper82 @jackson.bean.and.co @scottdaniels__22 @antsanena @jo_dolo @jcards31 @reiddarren.19 @blairatcheynum @jwinch17 @codysims.29 @_alexbarrett @fgfoundationca @sensalum18 @senatorsfoundation
