This is the razorbill, a seabird found across the North Atlantic that genuinely looks like it doesn’t belong in the same visual system as everything else. The sharp black-and-white contrast, the perfectly clean lines, and that thick, almost geometric beak make it look more rendered than natural. It has the posture of a penguin, but unlike penguins, it can fly.
It’s built for two completely different environments. In the air, it flies with rapid wingbeats. In the water, it uses those same wings to “fly” underwater, diving for fish with speed and precision. On cliffs, it nests in dense colonies and lays a single egg directly on bare rock, shaped to roll in tight circles instead of off the edge. Everything about it feels slightly off at first glance, but every feature is tuned for survival in cold, open ocean conditions.
