Ben Morris

I’m elated to share that I’ll be joining the faculty at @umkccons in the fall as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Composition. I’m joining a world-class faculty of composers, performers, and theatre and dance artists. We are thrilled to move to Kansas City, a hub for arts and culture, and great BBQ that absolutely competes with (or outclasses 😂) TX BBQ. I’m particularly excited that this position is geared toward immersive interdisciplinary collaboration; I’ll also be joining a cohort of new faculty in theatre and sound design and building forward-looking collaborative multimedia storytelling projects. I’m really looking forward to making new work that engages different disciplines and the city and community of KC.

In many ways, this news is bittersweet, as Maggie and I have cherished our time at @sfasumusic in Nacogdoches, especially all of the friends we have made and the helpful, supportive, and kind mentorship of our faculty colleagues as we navigate academic life. I’m also particularly proud of my students, who have grown immensely as artists and people during my 4 years here. I am eager to follow their journeys as they continue on to their next adventures!
