Dozens of graduate assistants, students, and parents marched Tuesday in support of a strong contract to benefit the over 2,300 graduate student workers at UConn.

In a statement to NBC Connecticut, a spokesperson for the university says that “as with all of its collective bargaining units, Conn does not discuss negotiations or specific bargaining proposals while the process is ongoing.”

The union says they’re negotiating with UConn again tomorrow.

Just leave the university, out of all the universities I've been to, this one treated students and employees the worst.

amazing organizing by the ga body!! GAs do so much of the hands on work and deserve to be recognized as such.

As a full year GA (january-december), I am only eligible for GA health insurance in the spring and fall semesters which is about a $35 bi weekly payroll deduction. and even though I am doing the SAME WORK at the SAME PAY in the summer, I am now called “special payroll”, and my health insurance will be a $542 bi-weekly payroll deduction, so I have the lovely privilege of deciding if I want to stay at UConn and forgo health insurance over the summer or find a full-time position that offers health insurance.
