PAULSBORO, NEW JERSEY

Sean D. Scott, 45, and India L. Miller, 27, of Paulsboro have been charged with murder following the death of Miller’s 9-year-old daughter, Maya Thomas, who authorities say suffered severe physical abuse.

Prosecutors said the couple called 911 around 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, claiming Maya may have been hit by a car while walking the dog. However, surveillance footage showed no vehicles passing through the area at the time.

Maya was taken to a hospital with extensive bruising, facial injuries, internal trauma, and multiple broken ribs, some in different stages of healing. She died at 6:42 p.m. Tuesday. Medical examiners ruled her death a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries.

Investigators allegedly found blood on the bathroom floor, children’s clothing, and cleaning supplies, suggesting an attempt to clean up the scene. Prosecutors also said the couple’s 4-year-old child told police that Scott had struck Maya in the eyes and face.

Maya’s maternal grandmother, Lynn Miller, said she raised the girl from 18 months old until age 7, when her mother moved her to New Jersey to live with Scott. Reports indicate Maya was never enrolled in school and was homeschooled by her mother and stepfather.

Both defendants face charges including first-degree murder, accomplice to murder, child endangerment, hindering, and filing a fictitious police report. They are being held at Salem County Jail and could face life in prison if convicted.

Tesla’s Roadster can flip itself midair. Reserving one takes $50,000 upfront and a lot of patience.

The car uses 10 nozzles and 250 kilos of compressed air for its thruster stunts, and Elon Musk said the tanks can recharge while it’s driving. Tesla claimed a 230 mph top speed, and Musk said the production version could target Mach 0.5.

Tesla announced the Roadster in 2017 and originally said deliveries would begin in 2020. Musk now says production starts in 2028, and Thursday’s event came two weeks after the Oct. 1 date was pushed back.

His review after the landing: “Well, it worked.”

My dear Somervillains,
I owe you a personal word. Many of you have heard by now - the news has been traveling faster than I have - and I'm sorry it's taken me this long to speak to you directly. These past weeks have been a blur of hospitals, scans, biopsies and difficult conversations, and I needed time to understand what we're facing before I could find the words. And with 3 little girls, it’s imperative that I can function.
On September 8th, I was diagnosed with diffuse midline glioma (DMG) - an aggressive, cancerous brain tumor that is unfortunately not operable and is only treated to gain time. I am currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy here in Germany, and Sander Gommans is by my side through all of it.
I won't pretend this isn't serious. It is. But I am being cared for by excellent doctors, and we are pursuing every option available to us, including new treatments that give us real reason for hope.
Your messages, your prayers, your love - I have felt all of it, even in the silence. Thank you for carrying me. For now, just knowing you’re with us means everything. 🤘🏻💖✊🏻
