@zenithwatches, one of the LVMH Group’s key watchmaking brands is reportedly facing a major strategic restructuring in the face of sustained financial losses. Swiss news outlet Le Temps reported that 50% of the jobs at the brand’s manufacturing facilities in Le Locle — around 100 staff — were at stake, as well around 100 international roles. In addition, it is possible that the brand is closing its retail operations until 2029, and dramatically cull collections. Zenith CEO Benoit de Clerck, in a statement to the Business of Fashion described the strategy as a “profound resizing”, saying that “Every watch brand in our segment is facing a severely depressed market right now.” De Clerck’s strategy proposes that Zenith will return in 2029, focused on a much higher market segment, possibly built around the high-end G.F.J. Calibre 135. In addition, Zenith has been a significant supplier of movements to other LVMH group brands. In 2024 Frédéric Arnault noted that the brand could serve as a specialist movement supplier for LVMH group brands. Regardless of the current difficulties, Zenith’s legacy is unimpeachable. From its founding in 1865, to strong perfoemance in chronometry competitions and the birth of the El Primero in 1969, and more recently its innovation in high frequency chronographs, the brand has been a staple of watchmaking, and we look forward to the next chapter of this storied brand.
