Grateful to spend the day with the Jazz Institute of Chicago at BandWith for their Teachers’ Workshop.

I had the opportunity to present “Where’s the Clave? A Hands-On Latin Rhythm Section Workshop for Jazz Band Directors”. The goal was simple: get everyone playing, listening, and feeling how these parts lock together in real time.

Huge thanks to the Jazz Institute of Chicago for creating space for this kind of hands-on learning and community.

It was also a pleasure sharing the day with such great colleagues. Much respect to Bethany Pickens and Donovan Mixon for the work they’re doing and for contributing to such a strong program.

Always encouraged seeing educators lean in, try something new, and engage with the music in a real way.
