High schoolers at this year’s Nebraska HOSA
@nebraskahosa convention got an immersive lesson in the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Follow this four-part series for a firsthand look at The Poverty Sim.
A core part of nursing and allied-health education at NMC, this deeply researched tool gives students a felt sense of the challenges many of our community members face — from housing insecurity to food deserts and transportation barriers.
In Part 1, public health policy teacher Kiley Petersmith explains how the sim helps future healthcare workers ask better questions, developing the tools to transform @nebraskahosa healthcare systems. Petersmith introduced the sim to NMC 10 years ago from the Missouri Community Action Network
