Rahul Gandhi on Monday claimed that around 200 officers working in the Modi government were in touch with the Opposition and sharing information. Addressing a press conference in Delhi on October 12, the Leader of the Opposition said, “Modi ji, 200 of your officers are in touch with us.” He specifically mentioned officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Ministry of External Affairs. The remarks came ahead of the INDIA bloc’s planned march to the Supreme Court over alleged electoral irregularities and demands for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Gandhi also urged Gyanesh Kumar to resign and “turn approver”, asking him to reveal what he knew about the alleged wrongdoing. He argued that Kumar was not the main person responsible and alleged that pressure was being exerted on the CEC by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. These allegations have not been established as proven wrongdoing. The Congress leader said the Opposition would continue its campaign until the Constitution was upheld and the election system was fixed. He also called on young people, Opposition parties and civil society groups to join the march, framing it as a movement to defend democracy and electoral integrity. The INDIA bloc planned to submit a memorandum to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant concerning alleged “vote chori” and the revision of electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. However, the Chief Justice declined the leaders’ request for a meeting, indicating that the concerns should be pursued through judicial proceedings because related matters were already before the court. The Election Commission has maintained that the voter-list revision process is impartial, while the Opposition continues to question its implementation.
