✨{Artist Spotlight 8}✨

Jenna Gross is a dancer and craft artist from Westford, MA. They received their BA in Dance and Performance with a minor in Graphic Design Communications from Roger Williams University in 2020. Choreographers she has worked with include Laila Franklin, Lorriane Chapman (LCTC), Cathrine Siller, Eliza Malecki, Natalie Johnson Dance, Providence Ballet Theatre and Karen Bray. Additionally, Jenna has an ongoing relationship with the Milton branch of the Isadora Duncan Company which upholds Isadora’s historical modern dance techniques. Jenna is also the co-director of Rose Woods Dance Collaborative (RWDC), a comedic dance theatre company. Jenna strives to dance unapologetically, showing joy, queerness, and absurdity in movement.

Jenna’s piece “Apply Pressure” comments on the use of comedy as a coping mechanism when dealing with inner turmoil and not wanting to burden others with being “negative”. This concept is explored by tropes in performative dance cliches, clowning vocabulary, and childlike aggression. This piece utilizes high energy contemporary dance with elements of jazz technique. The performance centers around calculated movements, dysfunctional teamwork, and the eventual burnout from over-performance.

Come see Jenna and all the other WiP Artists tomorrow at 6p and 8p ✨✨
