I’m back from 10 beautiful days in Berkeley with family to remember and celebrate the life of our wonderful tío Germán who was taken from us very unexpectedly and suddenly after Christmas.

He was the best. And he’ll be remembered for so many excellent things. I had no idea he was involved in the architectural design of San Francisco airport - next time you’re there, check out the roof. I did know that he loved cars, tennis, dancing, and - very importantly - postres. His clever restaurant hack was to look at the dessert options first and place that order before anything else should his choice run out.

But mostly, I’ll remember him for making my mum laugh so very much. Without fail they’d be in fits of giggles whenever they were together. It breaks my heart that she can’t call him for their regular charlas.

I’m so grateful that I could be in California to be part of his memorial and hang out with my cousins on hikes, city visits, and endless good food and conversations. I even got a new cousin! The glorious sunshine was a total bonus. #family #unclesrock
