4 months agoThis practice is a crime. Working from home? Ned caving to the union to assure their vote.
5 months agoAnyone working home from for the state not working their full shift either. They need to be in the office
5 months agoThis entire agency has been nothing but a problem for 40 years or more. Total clowns in charge. Dead kids. Generation after generation still in their care. Get rid of the entire thing!
6 months agoblame staffers when often the rules hamstring them, the case loads are impossibly large and the department is understaffed for the increased number of people needing help.
6 months agoFrom the outside looking it It’s easy to blame the workers every time a child dies but the bigger issue is staffing shortages high caseloads. The bad stories always out way the good that’s being done. To pivot to teleworking being an issue I 💯disagree with this not every worker is sitting around not doing nothing and the majority of are in the office regardless of their telework day. The problem is not enough foster homes, not enough group homes. Social workers don’t make decisions by themselves, they have a chain of command that makes the decisions and sometimes those decisions might not be the right one. Put social workers in these meetings to hear what works and what doesn’t. Not everyone is sitting behind a desk doing nothing. Let’s not forget our own families get neglected bc we’re working long hours. I agree the system needs revision but squarely put the blame on the workers when a child dies is not a fair statement
6 months agoRegarless weather a Child tells you in person, over the phone or on a video call their Not safe at home its Your responsibility to ACT as a Adult the child should have been removed to a hospital, a care facility something. Telework is not a issue, the ISSUE is The FAILURE TO ACT. The Goverment isnt going to actan if they do it will take 10 years and how many more deaths of children. People should be Outraged by this an find out who their neighbors are, ask the kid down the street to mow your grass, shovel your driveway an take an intrest in your community.
6 months agoBlaming teleworking is a ridiculous argument. Smacks of the mindset of corporate executives that somehow going to an office magically makes things better. DCF failures need to be looked at for sure, but let’s not get distracted by where someone does their work, just whether they are actually doing the job.
6 months ago@nbcconnecticut what a distraction piece to run for such a serious matter. No...what does that have to do with being in the field? When they were desk bound, we still had the same problems with them being understaffed. If they leave from their house and conduct field visits it is better bc they arent wasting time to go to their office then turn around and start site and field visits. It also helps alleviate traffic so that people who should really be commuting to a site arent just all bottle necking into an office before then dispensing into the field.
6 months ago👏👏👏 🫡 thank you sir…keep going!!! How much overtime is being paid to a failed agency? Are they being paid OT while they are home? Have they done away with “remote” visits of children? Anything the gov is in charge of fails miserably. Housing, DCF, water treatment, it all fails. If DCF were a business, they would have closed the doors a long time ago. The service they provide is horrendous. But we continue to waste tax dollars on a broken system.
6 months agoYou are correct, Len. The agency can deny telework requests. And does. Most employees are in the office or field more than a day or two a week. The Child Advocate doesn't know what she is talking about. The agency can and does modify telework requests based on performance. The bigger issue here is the poor leadership of the past couple of DCF administrations, too many mandates and not enough line staff. The number of directors and administrators has ballooned over the past decade as well, which hinders good case practice. DCF had 26 directors and 3 administrators a decade ago. They now have 45 and 11. This is a failure on the part of the governors office and DAS to keep the number of managers in check.
6 months agoWith all the "defund the police" nonsense when the empty PEZ dispenser was squatting in the White House was going on, why no defund DCF chants!?
