FG Launches Four-Year Initiative to Lift Five Million Nigerians Out of Poverty The Federal Government has launched a four-year initiative targeting five million Nigerians for poverty reduction, with 700 youths trained in AI, graphics design and vocational skills in Oyo State. The programme, implemented by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE), is designed to tackle unemployment, bridge skills gaps and equip beneficiaries to start businesses. The Oyo training, held from September 28 to October 9, ended with a graduation ceremony at the University of Ibadan, where beneficiaries received equipment and digital devices. Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Special Assistant to the President on TVEE, Dr Abiola Arogundade, said President Bola Tinubu wants young Nigerians to have opportunities to become economically independent. “Mr President believes that our young people do not simply need assistance. They need opportunity. They need skills. They need the tools to compete and build sustainable livelihoods. And that is what today represents,” she said. Of the 700 beneficiaries, 30 were trained in AI and graphics design, 85 in make-up artistry, 85 in fashion design, while 500 received digital devices. Arogundade urged them to use the skills and equipment to create opportunities for others, saying, “What you receive today is not the destination. It is the beginning. Take the skills you have learnt. Take the tools you have received, and build something with them.” Oyo APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to build sustainable businesses and create jobs. One beneficiary, Olaleye Idowu, said he hopes to become a professional AI prompt engineer within five years and train and employ others. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, described the initiative as “a very good initiative” and said it would help empower people and reduce poverty.
