After all this time, I realise love is not only kept by big romantic moments. Sometimes, it grows through small things we keep repeating.

Flirting after marriage keeps the relationship playful and alive. Frisby (2009) shared that flirtatious communication can help maintain closeness, connection, and relationship satisfaction.

Relationship satisfaction can also grow from keeping our memory archive. It helps us stay grounded. Majzoobi and Forstmeier (2022) found that revisiting relationship-defining memories can help couples reconnect emotionally and make sense of their relationship journey. So in hard moments, memory helps us remember how far we have come together.

But being gentle with our partner can happen more naturally when we are kind to ourselves first. That’s why space for ourselves matters too. Neff (2009) reminds us that self-compassion means treating ourselves with kindness in difficult moments. Maybe taking time to be ourselves helps us return with more softness, patience, and love. And it help to prevent love become unhealthy codependency. Lancer (2022) described codependency as losing connection with our own core because our thoughts and behaviours revolve too much around someone external.

So maybe love is sustained by simple things:
playfulness, remembrance, space,
and the willingness to keep learning each other.

Happy Anniversary, to my favorite person.
Thank you for walking with me to learn a lot in this life🫶💞
