It’s so easy to get caught up in life and forget about all the air impurities we are bringing into our home! Cancer changed our lives, and maybe it was a blessing.

June 20, 2025 we got the news - Mom had stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and it spread to her liver and lungs. Survival at her age and stage we were told was “slim to none”.

Despite that dire diagnosis, mom and I decided that however long she’d have left on this planet that we’d make the time worthwhile and the experience fun, by any means necessary.

Over the last 12 months, we’ve navigated chemotherapy, hospitals, emergency rooms, medications, weekly lab visits, holistic treatments, and sleepless nights. All of this bonded us even closer than we already were.

I’ve moved to be her full time caregiver. We joke that she finally got her wish for me to become a nurse. I am eternally grateful for the encouragement and support from my loved ones who helped make these major moves happen so quickly.

When she started becoming weaker I took her and the family to Disneyland - her first time back in 30 years, and her last big outing. She had so much fun and we didn’t want the day to end.

At home I’ve prioritized quiet moments and quality time like sitting with her watching the bees dance around the gorgeous garden she planted.

Being with her into her final days makes this chapter feel like the holiest experience of my life.
I’m forever changed, and forever grateful to be given this chance to show up for her like she’s showed up for me my entire life.

And there will be promises kept. Until the end.

I asked my friends what their happy song was. Not favorite, or current bop. Not even regular genre. A song no one knows you love, the one that makes you crack a smile even after a depleting day. I have a few.. but this one is top 5 lol. That’s considering I’m a full fledged reggaeton / r&b / hip-hop lady. (Soft emo rock secretly thrown in there cause I still bump Hawthorn Heights…..)

Some songs conjure up that feeling of when you first fall in love, be it with a lover or a platonic friend. It’s unbalancing and stabilizing all at once. Life feels sealed by fate in the best way.
