Cinnamon roll French toast.

Ingredients

For the Cinnamon Filling

6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

For the French Toast:

12 slices white bread or Texas toast
3 large eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg, optional

Cream Cheese Glaze:

3 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

Method:

Mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
Take 4 slices of bread.
Spread an even layer of the cinnamon butter over 3 slices, then stack them together with the plain slice on top.
Now you should have one thick stack of 4 slices with cinnamon filling between the layers.Using a sharp knife, carefully cut off all four edges of the entire stack at once.
Repeat with the remaining 4 slices.

Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a shallow dish.

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add the oil and butter.
Quickly dip each stuffed bread stack into the custard, coating all sides.
Do not soak it. A quick dip is important because we want the outside to become crispy rather than soggy.

Place the dipped stack directly into the hot pan.
Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, turning carefully, until deeply golden brown and crispy.
Use tongs to hold the stack and cook each of the four edges for about 20–30 seconds so the entire outside becomes crisp.
Add a little more oil and butter if needed for the second batch.

Beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla and salt.
Gradually add the heavy cream or milk until you have a smooth, pourable glaze.

Transfer the French toast to a wire rack for 1–2 minutes. This keeps the bottom crispy instead of letting steam make it soggy.
Drizzle with the cream cheese glaze and cut it open while warm so the gooey cinnamon layers are visible.
