Father Reportedly Chased Oregon School Shooter Into Building and Shot Him Dead: But 4 Innocent Lives Were Still Lost

A father is being credited in early reports with stopping a deadly school shooting in Oregon after reportedly following a teenage gunman into an elementary school and shooting him. However, the heroic intervention came after four innocent people, including three young children, lost their lives.

The shooting unfolded Thursday, October 15, at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, where a 16-year-old gunman allegedly opened fire with a shotgun. The victims included children ages 5, 8, and 11, along with a teacher. Another 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old educator were critically injured. The 5-year-old has been identified as Rhoam Summer.

While authorities have confirmed that an armed civilian killed the shooter, emergency dispatch recordings suggest the man was a father at the school. Police have not officially confirmed whether the person was a parent. Nevertheless, the New York Post has identified the man as a “student’s dad.” Channel 2 Now also identified the hero who took down the shooter as Kaylub Giamanco.

According to emergency radio communications reported by the New York Post and Clarín, dispatchers initially alerted responding officers that the shooter had been stopped.

“Looks like the shooter has been neutralized – possibly shot by a father at the school,” a dispatcher reportedly stated.

Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz explained that the civilian witnessed the gunman entering the elementary school and decided to follow him inside.

Rather than fleeing the area, the armed individual confronted the 16-year-old as officers raced toward the building.

“Moments later, an officer reported that the suspect had been shot by a community member who had seen the suspect enter the school, and pursued him into the school and engaged him,” Krantz explained during a Thursday evening press conference.

The civilian fatally shot the suspect inside the school. Officers subsequently entered, confirmed the shooter’s death and began searching the building for victims and additional threats.

Butterfinger ghosts 👻

Literally my favorite healthier treat for spooky szn! Made with just a few ingredients (and can totally be made in a cupcake tin if you don’t have a ghost mold 😝) depending on the ingredients used, they’re easily made vegan, gluten free, & refined sugar free too ✨

➡️ recipe is below but if you want an easier to read recipe, comment LINK & I’ll DM it to you!
https://danishealthyeats.com/reeses-butterfinger-ghosts/

Butterfinger filling
1/2 cup Natural peanut butter
3-4 tbsp maple syrup
1 tbsp melted coconut oil or avocado oil
1 tsp vanilla extract & good pinch of sea salt
3/4 cup lightly crushed corn flake cereal (I used natures path organic, refined sugar free corn flakes)

Chocolate coating
1 1/3 cups chocolate chips
2 tsp coconut oil *if needed to thin the chocolate out!

Add a small amount of chocolate to the bottom of your molds, making sure to spread it out so it covers the bottom completely and pull it up the sides of each crevice a bit. Pop in the freezer for a few minutes to allow it to harden.

While the mold is in the freezer, make the filling. In a bowl, combine all of the ingredients besides the cereal, until smooth. Then fold in the cereal. Taste the mixture. If you want it a little sweeter, you can add an extra tablespoon of sweetener.

Once the chocolate layer has hardened in the molds, remove it from the freezer. Add some of the filling to each one, gently pressing it down into the bottom.

Use the remaining chocolate to pour over top of each ghost, spreading it out to cover the filling. Place the mold back in the freezer for an hour or so until completely firm (You want to give it time so the filling firms up as well).

Then remove the eggs from the mold and place them in an air-tight container. Store in the freezer!
