What if we’ve been worrying about the wrong fat all along? Remember when butter was suddenly back in style and everyone started warning us about seed oils? I certainly do. I watched patients switch from vegetable oils to butter, convinced they were making a healthier choice. But then a Harvard-led study published in 2025 followed more than 221,000 adults for up to 33 years. And the findings tell a very different story. The researchers found that people who consumed more butter had a higher risk of premature death, while those who consumed more plant-based oils had a lower risk. Replacing even a small amount of butter each day with plant-based oils was associated with a meaningful difference in long-term health. Swipe through, and pay special attention to slide 6. It’s the kind of information I wish more people knew before changing what’s in their kitchens. And please, don’t think this means you can never enjoy butter again. I certainly wouldn’t tell you that! It’s about what you choose most often, not what you eat occasionally.
