A couple of months ago I took a beginners quilting class! I learned how to create 8 different quilt blocks and for 8 weeks I worked on getting them all cut, sewn and pieced together. Once I finished the quilt top I decided to take it to get it professionally quilted and then bound. I love the quilting pattern I chose and I am so happy to have it back and finished!!

From the Worst Dressed list in 1996 to front row at a Versace show in 1997. Fuck yeah, that’s Courtney Love. But her interest in fashion went way back, long before the red carpets. In the 80s, her then-boyfriend’s mother, Bernadene, worked in Paramount’s costume department. She had costumed Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest (1981), and teenage Courtney would visit the set, developing a habit of rescuing antique pieces Bernadene had been asked to dispose of. “She spent a lot of time with me there. She was fascinated by the clothes and so excited when she found something genuine,” Bernadene recalled in ‘02. Courtney explained that her job involved throwing out clothes with dry rot: “Of course, I didn’t throw them out. I wore them every night. I was the best-dressed girl in Hollywood. I was wearing Lauren Bacall’s shoes, Grace Kelly’s dresses, and Frances Farmer’s hats.” Despite becoming a subculture fashion icon in the mid-90s for her kinderwh*re style, by January ‘96 Courtney had landed on fashion critic Mr. Blackwell’s Worst Dressed list (v questionable). At the NYC Film Critics awards on January 5, ‘97, she won Best Supporting Actress and confessed in her speech that she “had never won anything but Worst Dressed. So this is nice.” Then things took a turn. Courtney got the “Vogue makeover” and the fashion industry SAT UP. Suddenly some of the biggest names in fashion were courting her, desperate to dress her: Versace, Valentino, Prada, Dior, Fendi and Givenchy, to name a few. Most succeeded, as these slides show. After choosing Versace for the Oscars in March (that white dress had debuted on the Paris runway just 8 weeks earlier), she was invited to sit front row at Versace’s New York show the following month. “My very first fashion show!” she shouted to the peasants behind her. She told reporters: “I’ve been so sucked into fashion. It’s strange. My mother ran the first store in Oregon that sold Birkenstocks. So you can understand my beauty problem.
