Everybody talks about being patient through the pain.
But Imam Ali (AS) said there’s another kind —
and it might be the harder one.
“Patience is of two kinds: patience over what pains you, and patience against what you covet.”
— Imam Ali (AS) | Nahj al-Balagha
The first kind we know well.
Pushing through the slow months.
Sitting with the rejection.
Trusting the process when nothing is moving.
That patience is real. And it’s necessary.
But the second kind?
Patience against what you covet.
Holding yourself back from the shortcut.
Saying no to the opportunity that isn’t quite right.
Watching others win while you wait — and not breaking your standard.
That’s not just patience.
That’s mastery.
Because delayed success isn’t punishment.
It’s preparation.
Everything you’re being held back from right now
is either protecting you
or perfecting you.
Both kinds of patience are building something in you
that the easy path never could. 🤍
