Before I start I want to say thank you to everyone that came to see me at my table this past weekend! So many of my little friends found families and that makes me so happy. And to those who come by and say they can’t purchase anything but love my stuff I want to say it means so much to me that you enjoy it regardless if you can buy from me or not. I love seeing all of you get excited over my work and that alone makes these events worth it for me.
Now the hard part. I like to be someone who is more positive thinking, giving benefit of the doubt wherever I can give it. When Fandomcon first started I was disappointed but I was still hopeful. I’ve seen the people of San Jose show up in troves of support before in the same space and thought of it as an overpriced market more than a convention so I stayed positive.
But as the weekend went on I saw so many issues, so many angry and tired artists pretty much being scammed out of their money for show runners who don’t care about us. I don’t want to make a laundry list since plenty have been made already, just search the fandom con tag for them, but to put my personal thoughts all together I think the event was beyond poorly managed who saw everyone there from vendors to the VAs as an asset to fill their pockets than people who came together to celebrate things people love.
I’m mainly writing this to say even though I did have a good time meeting the attendees who showed up and artists I wouldn’t have gotten to meet otherwise, I will not be going back next year and implore everyone who came not to spend money on this event in the years to come. Don’t do it.
I’ll be at Galaxy Con San Jose this year. If you want a better experience come see me then! Thanks for reading. <3
As always, if you wish to know where any of these patterns come from please comment and I'll reply!
