_______________
A 14-year-old California girl has been rescued in Mexico after authorities say her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez, allegedly sexually abused and impregnated her.
_______________
The case began after the teen’s newborn daughter, referred to by investigators as “Baby Angelita,” was found dead along a Monterey County roadway on August 1. Investigators later determined the girl had given birth near the road before leaving the area. A forensic examination reportedly found signs of traumatic injuries to the baby.
_______________
Authorities say Perez and his daughter were later located in Mexico during a coordinated operation involving Mexican law enforcement, the FBI and Monterey County investigators. Perez was arrested and was also allegedly found in possession of narcotics.
_______________
Perez is facing allegations including incest, sexual offenses involving a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment and child endangerment. Prosecutors say the alleged abuse happened while the girl was under 14.
_______________
The teen was initially sought in connection with the baby’s death, but prosecutors later clarified that she has not been charged and is being treated as a victim of her father’s alleged abuse.
_______________
No homicide charge has been filed against Perez in connection with the baby’s death, and that investigation remains ongoing.
